The Lost Cove

I was awoken that morning by two notifications: An email about the apparent snow-day, and a text from my brother asking if I wanted to go on a hike with his friend Drew. The place was called The Lost Cove Settlement in Erwin, TN. After a steep but relatively short hike up from a bend in the Nolichucky River and the railroad running beside it, we arrived at what used to be a few houses and sheds. Captivated, I just at the wood, nails, chimneys, and headstones these people processed by hand. It was humbling. These families worked diligently together to survive seasons after the Civil War, and some died doing it. I certainly can’t tell you everything about the history of this place, but you can read up a bit on this abandoned settlement here.
